Q & A with Artist Erica Parrott

On Saturday, August 24th, COWORKQC is hosting a gallery for the very talented local artist Erica Parrott. We adore Erica and are amazed by her work! We took a minute to ask her a few questions. Read her responses here and then stop by to meet her in person!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN THE QCA?

I grew up in Moline, moved to Milwaukee for school, then spent 8 years in Naples, FloridaM before moving back the the Quad Cities in 2015.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN ARTIST?

I’ve been drawing since I was a little kid. My mom always encouraged me and we would draw together.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I am inspired by interesting faces, uncommon color combinations, and graphic elements mixed with natural or more subtle parts. I love 1970s portrait painting, Alice Neel, Alex Katz, Barkley Hendricks…and design and illustration from that era, as well as Peter Max and Corita Kent.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK?

I think my work is personal and vulnerable. It’s hard to know how it looks from the outside.

WHAT ARE YOU READING / WATCHING / LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?

I’ve been listening to a Spotify playlist from an old friend. And lately I love Weyes Blood, and this band I recently found called Kacy and Clayton. And Judy Collins, Fairport Convention vibes…so pretty.
